Sha’ban is the
eighth lunar month of Hijri calendar. It is the second month of worship to
prepare for the grand month of Ramazaan. The Noble Messenger (s.a.w.a.s.) had
said: “Sha’ban is a month dedicated to me. Whoever keeps one fast during my
month will definitely go to Heaven. Whoever observes nine fasts during Sha’ban
should not fear the interrogation of Munkir and Nakeer. Whoever observes twelve
fasts during Sha’ban, 70,000 angels will descend over his/her grave on the
first night of his/her burial, the night of Wahshah, to remove his/her fear and
loneliness Similarly, whoever fasts on Mondays and Thursdays, Allah will
fulfill twenty of his worldly wishes and twenty of his wishes for Hereafter.”
Keeping fasts on
Thursdays of Sha’ban has great significance as the angels ask Allah for his
forgiveness and his prayers are accepted. This is the month of asking for forgiveness
of sins, giving charity and fasting. Similarly, we should fast on the 13, 14,
and 15 of Sha’ban.
